What is Restless Leg Syndrome?

Have you been told that you have Restless Leg Syndrome?

What is it anyway?
It is a restless urgency to move because of burning, tingling, tugging sensations in the legs.  People can not sleep with this urgency and loose sleep because of it.  It is becoming increasingly more popular and people really don’t know what to do about it.

How can it be eliminated?
I have found that simple pelvic adjusting has decreased the frequency of these sensations and most times keep them at bay for good.  Caffeine, alcohol and tobacco all exacerbate restless leg syndrome. So, like always, keep off the junk food, drink lots of water and take care of yourself!  If you still have problems with Restless Leg Syndrome, give us a call, we can help!

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Complex regional pain syndrome “CRPS” occurs when a you have severe pain typically affecting one arm or leg. Often this problem begins after an extreme injury.

Symptoms include strong, burning pain in your extremity (leg, foot, arm or hand). You may also experience swelling, stiffness and damage to the area involved. Decreased movement, muscle loss, weakness or spasms may also become frequent. Skin temperature changes from hot to cold, alterations of color from white to red and blue with tender, thin and shiny skin are also common with this type of problem.  This pain, if untreated will get worse.

This syndrome happens after experiencing a Shrapnel blast, gunshot wound, surgery, heart attack, fractures or infections. Your nerves can be highly affected by this type of trauma to your body.

Burner Syndrome is more common than you think!

This injury is most common with football players but it can happen with anyone who falls onto their shoulder pushing their head to the opposite side of their body.  It can also occur when people stretch their neck muscles and nerves beyond their capacity.  Symptoms of burning or stinging pain in the shoulder or neck occurs.  It is often followed by pain which may radiate down to the arm or hand.  Numbness and weakness of the shoulder or arm may happen immediately or over time.

Treatment begins with icing the injury if there is edema and muscle therapy is begun after the swelling is down.  Low force chiropractic adjustments are greatly helpful and Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy (S.A.S.T.M.) can improve movement of the neck and decrease the affects of scar tissue after the injury.

It is important to start rehabilitation quickly in order to keep motion in the neck and prevent stiffness which will make for a slower recovery.   Exercise programs to improve strength and flexibility are administered once the body is stable.

At Precise Moves Chiropractic we are very successful with burner syndrome and numerous sports injuries.  If you have hurt yourself, have limited motion or are not functioning at the level you would like, give us a call…we can help!
