Wellness Care v. Sick Care. What is the real difference?

What is real wellness care?

Most people who live in the United States believe they are getting health care when purchasing an insurance plan or when using one.  Sadly, most insurance plans cover “sick” care.  Health care should focus on health, not on sickness.

According to to Trust for America’s Health (TFAH), it has been proven that prevention is the main element to better health.  Disease prevention could save millions of people in the United States from pain and suffering.  It’s clear to see, if you are looking, renewehiconlineuk.com published an article comparing the priorities in the American care system and that of Europe’s.

People want a system that allow them to stay well, not only treat them when they are sick.  Real wellness helps guide patients to healthy lifestyle choices that lead to a strong mind and body, not one that is dis-eased and low functioning.  Knowing what to eat and how to nourish the body, proper exercise, normal sleeping patterns,  stress relief or anything that may need to be modified to help each individual thrive as a person is real wellness. Being free from pain is not wellness, it is a holding pattern until bad habits lead to symptoms.

Getting a dexascan, mammogram, annual exam are great to detect if anything is abnormal but finding out what is leading to any problems with the body is real prevention, health and wellness.

According to the TFHA, americans are not as healthy as they used to be.  Rates of preventable problems like diabetes, stroke and heart disease are on the rise even though we know what causes them in most cases.  The U.S. has very high health care costs and because people are sicker (along with tons of mandatory paperwork).

Healthy lifestyle prevention programs can help decrease costs at work, increase productivity and less days off from work.  Quality of life goes up and people are happier, energetic and more creative if they are healthy.  It can only take $10 per person per year in programs provided by the community to increase physical activity, help with nutrition and get people off of tobacco.  Doing this could save 16 billion dollars each year.  Yes, 16 billion dollars.

Pesticides in our food, fast food, sedentary lifestyles, high stress at work and home are all leading to ill health and people are starting to think that having a headache from time to time is normal. It is not.  Digestive issues are rampant in the states and this is from the food we are eating not because our body doesn’t digest well when we get older.  Patients often tell me that pain is to be anticipated when getting older and it is not. Pain is a sign that something is wrong, not of old age.

Staying healthy and well is hard work.  It takes dedication and education along the way.  Taking the time to give your body what it needs like bodywork, proper nutrition and exercise is a life long process.  It is work, but well worth it.  You and your body deserve it!

At Precise Moves Chiropractic, we cover the full spectrum of wellness care.  We help guide our patients along the way with any advice they may need to get them functioning at a high capacity.  Our Redwood City office is conveniently downtown and close to all methods of transportation.  Give us a call or see our 24 hour online scheduler to make an appointment.  Your body will thank you for it!

H1N1 Vaccination More Dangerous Than The Actual Swine Flu!

According to NaturalNews, after taking a closer look at infection and death rates from confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza shot during the 2009–2010 “pandemic,” (as declared by the World Health Organization (WHO)), has revealed that the vaccine for H1N1 swine flu is far more dangerous and deadly than the the flu and its effects.  After going over data, it has been determined that more people were injured with permanent brain damage, narcolepsy or even death from the vaccine compared to the number of injuries and deaths directly attributed to H1N1.

One out of every 16,000 people who received the Pandemrix vaccine which was made and manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, according to the International Business Times, developed narcolepsy or cataplexy.  This is a condition that results in a person not being able to sleep for more than 90 minutes at a time, and falling unexpectedly unconscious throughout the day with no warning. The condition is a marker of brain damage, in fact, which is why the UK government agreed to pay out 60 million pounds, or about $92 million, to victims that had such effects after the vaccine was administered.

Roughly 60 million people received the Pandemrix vaccine for swine flu during the declared pandemic.  This means that nearly 4,000 people likely now suffer from narcolepsy or cataplexy as a result. The actual death rate from confirmed cases of swine flu was minimal, with only 71 confirmed deaths in the UK between April 2009 and February 2010. In the U.S., the reported number was a bit higher, but it has since been revealed that the official numbers were inflated as a lot of data is by drug companies who administer such medicine.

As it turns out, the majority of the alleged cases of the swine flu in the United States that were reported in the media were actually NOT the swine flu at all.  Actually they were not any type of flu at all!Investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson recently confirmed this after consulting with the top federal agency that deals with such matters, which refused to provide her with the actual laboratory results to back its official death numbers.  According to Attkisson, she stated “I exclusively obtained lab test results from 50 states when the Centers for Disease Control refused to produce them.” “The results showed that most of the supposed cases of swine flu were not swine flu at all. In fact, they weren’t any type of flu.”

So, what is in the vaccine?

The vaccine has two components that are mixed together before the vaccine is given.

1. The primary substance is the antigen drug substance for immunizing.

2. An n adjuvant known as AS03.

The antigen contains: thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative used in the manufacturing of multidose vaccines, sodium chloride, disodium hydrogen phosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium chloride and water. As mentioned, there are traces of egg protein, and also of formaldehyde, sodium deoxycholate and sucrose.

The adjuvant AS03 is composed of: DL-alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), squalene (shark liver oil) and polysorbate 80 (an emulsifier). In addition, its vial contains: sodium chloride, disodium hydrogen phosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium chloride and water.

I have several patients that get the flu shot every year.  I do not.   It is their choice as to whether they want to put this toxin into their body but I do suggest to them that they read up on what is in the shot so they can make a educated decision.  If you decide not to get the shot, just take care of yourself, cut down on the sugar and get some sleep.  This is the best way to make sure your body’s immune system is working well!

Can Dogs Smell Sickness?

I recently read an article entitled: Training Dogs to Sniff Out Cancer in the NY Times.

This article states that in Philidelphia a springer spaniel works at the Veteran Center and is being trained to find differences in different types of blood plasma.  His nose skims 12 tiny arms that protrude from the edges of a table-size wheel, each holding samples of blood plasma, where only one of which is spiked with a drop of cancerous tissue. He does so and he gets a treat!

This dog is named McBaine.  He is one of four highly trained cancer detection dogs at the center, which trains purebreds to put their superior sense of smell to work in search of the early signs of cancer.

Since 2004, research has been suggesting that dogs may be able to smell the subtle chemical differences between healthy and cancerous tissue.

Dogs have already been trained to respond to diabetic emergencies or alert passers-by if an owner is about to have a seizure.

A study presented at the American Urological Association’s annual meeting in May reported that two German shepherds trained at the Italian Ministry of Defense’s Military Veterinary Center in Grosseto were able to detect prostate cancer in urine with about 98 percent accuracy, far better than the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test that is normally given to patients.   That is really amazing.  Dogs are so wonderful!

The dogs, are raised in the homes of volunteer foster families, and start with basic obedience classes when they are eight weeks old. They then begin their training in earnest, with the goal of teaching them that sniffing everything — from ticking bombs to malignant tumors — is rewarding.

What exactly are the dogs sensing? George Preti, a chemist at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, has spent much of his career trying to isolate the volatile chemicals behind cancer’s unique odor. “We have known for a long time that dogs are very sensitive detectors,” Dr. Preti says.

Dr. Preti is working to isolate unique chemical biomarkers responsible for ovarian cancer’s subtle smell using high-tech spectrometers and chromatographs. Once he identifies a promising compound, he tests whether the dogs respond to that chemical in the same way that they respond to actual ovarian cancer tissue.

“I’m not embarrassed to say that a dog is better than my instruments,” Dr. Preti says.

Some experts remain skeptical and I am sure there is more research to be done before it is utilized in a medical setting, but it could be very interesting if dogs have the capability of detecting such things.  Wouldn’t it be better than getting an invasive procedure?

How can I avoid getting a cold?

When weather is changing and it is getting dark out sooner, be prepared to come in contact with people with colds.  We all know the symptoms…

  • Runny nose
  • Sneezing
  • Nasal and sinus blockage
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Sore throat

Since I was a kid, my mom always said “button up or you will catch a cold” or “don’t go outside with your hair wet, you will catch a cold”.  So, what causes a cold?

Contrary to popular belief, the majority of cold viruses do not spread through the air and seldom are transmitted from airborne particles expelled when someone with a cold coughs or sneezes. Though you want to be prepared and protect yourself here are the most common reasons why people “catch a cold.”

  • Hand-to-hand contact is the most common reason for spreading a cold.  Touching objects at work, kids playing with other kids toys or books, going to public areas and touching items other people have touched that have have the cold are pretty easy ways to spread a cold.   It is also pretty easy to catch when a cold sufferer rubs his or her nose and then, shakes hands with someone who, in turn, touches his or her own nose or eyes.
  • Touching doorknobs and other hard surfaces, such as subway handrails, grocery carts, office telephones, and computer keyboards transport the cold virus.

So, now that you know the real transmission of a cold, you are better prepared to combat it!  Wash your hands after touching anything that is communal and this should help.  Also, make sure you are getting enough vitamin D which heightens the immune system.
